Travel Medical Bags

The association maintains two Travel Medical Bags to provide teams with access to basic first-aid supplies while traveling for hockey activities.

The bags are intended to support basic first aid and emergency preparedness. They are not a substitute for appropriate medical evaluation, emergency medical services, or a facility's emergency procedures.

Bag Availability

Because a limited number of bags are available, priority will generally be given to older traveling teams. Availability will be coordinated based on team travel schedules.

A coach or team manager should be designated as the responsible person for the bag during travel.

Check Out or Return a Travel Medical Bag

Use the Travel Medical Bag Form to:

  • Check out a bag before travel
  • Return a bag after travel
  • Report supplies that were used
  • Report anything missing, damaged, wet, or contaminated
  • Report another problem with a bag
  • Travel Medical Bag Form

Coaches and team managers are not responsible for replacing supplies. Returned bags will be reviewed and restocked before being returned to service.

Arriving at the Rink

When arriving at a rink, especially an unfamiliar facility, take 30 seconds to get oriented:

  • Locate the AED
  • Identify the entrance EMS should use
  • Know the rink address
  • Know who will call 911
  • Know who will retrieve the AED
  • Know who will meet and direct EMS

In an Emergency

For a serious or potentially serious injury or medical emergency, call 911 and follow the facility's emergency procedures.

The presence of a Travel Medical Bag should never delay calling 911 or seeking appropriate medical care.
