Adult Learn To Play Hockey
Looking for a stress-relieving activity that's vigorous, fun, great exercise and a heck-of-a-lot more exciting than going to the gym? Why not get off the sidelines and learn to play hockey?
Whether you are new to hockey or haven’t played for a while, playing hockey is a great way to meet new people and be part of a growing hockey community while getting in some exercise.
Adult Learn to Play sessions are for co-ed adults 18 years or older, with little to no experience. Our goal is to expand the hockey community and prepare players for the next step in their hockey career, to be confident at Wednesday Night Adult Drop-In!
NOTE: We do require you to be able to stop, start, and skate the distance of the ice before signing up. Since the fundamentals of playing hockey involve skating, we want to make sure everyone who has an interest in playing are starting off correctly with the tools to succeed.

Each week, instruction will be led by our Hockey Director or one of our qualified youth coaches. Every session will begin with power skating and edgework to develop and enhance skating ability, including forward stride, tight turns, stopping, crossovers, and backward skating. Stickhandling and shooting drills will also be incorporated to improve puck control and scoring skills.
NOTE: There may be occasional cancellations if a majority of participants or coaches are out of town for youth hockey commitments.

Frequently Asked Questions
Isn’t Ice Hockey Expensive?
We know there is a perception that hockey can be expensive. While the cost of ice per hour and hockey equipment drives much of this perception, the Maryville University Hockey Center wants to make sure every player who has an interest in trying out hockey, has that opportunity.
How Safe is Hockey?
While all sports include some level of risk, ice hockey is very safe if played in the correct manner. In Ice Hockey, players are required to wear protective gear that covers much of their body, so while the risk is not zero, it is greatly reduced.
Will You Teach Me How To Skate?
While our program is certainly designed to help improve a skating abilities, we do require you to be able to stop, start, and go the distance of the ice before signing up. Since the fundamentals of playing hockey involve skating, we want to make sure everyone who has an interest in playing are starting off correctly with the tools to succeed.
